When Govinda Kept Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth Waiting—for Three Whole Days

In the world of Bollywood, where punctuality is rare and stardom often comes with a side of diva behavior, two legends have always stood apart: Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth—renowned not only for their talent, but for their professionalism and punctuality. But even these two titans of Indian cinema once found themselves playing the waiting game—because of none other than Govinda.

Multi-starrer films are a logistical nightmare, and any filmmaker who has pulled one off will agree: managing superstar schedules is no easy feat. And in the case of the 1991 blockbuster Hum, directed by Mukul Anand, the challenges were very real—even for Bollywood royalty.

The film boasted a powerhouse cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Govinda, Kader Khan, and more. But it’s what happened behind the scenes that recently came to light—thanks to actor Vijay Patkar, who was also part of the ensemble.

In a candid interview with Filmymantra Media, Vijay Patkar recounted a moment that has now become the stuff of Bollywood legend: "Director Mukul Anand wanted a sunrise shot with the whole family walking by. They couldn’t shoot it for three days because Govinda wasn’t on set. Rajinikanth, Bachchan saab were all on set. On the fourth day, the director requested him again and he came. All of them waited for him because he just wouldn’t come," Patkar revealed.

Yes, you read that right. The legendary Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth were kept waiting on set—for three whole days—because Govinda was a no-show. And yet, according to Patkar, both stars handled the situation with grace and professionalism, quietly sitting on set without complaint or ego.

But that wasn’t the only time Govinda’s tardiness caught attention. Patkar shared another lesser-known anecdote involving the actors during the filming of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Rumor has it that Amitabh Bachchan would sometimes personally pick up Govinda from his bungalow just to ensure he made it to the shoot.

In an industry where egos clash and tempers flare, this story serves as a reminder that even the biggest stars—Amitabh and Rajini—can wait in silence, while others keep the spotlight waiting.
